Unicist benchmarks: Cruise liners are organized by objects

Cruise liners need to be perfectly organized in order to generate a context of pleasure that allows passengers to expand their internal freedom.

Their organization has to be perfect but should not be noticed. Only an unperceivable perfect organization allows passengers to expand without feeling neither pushed nor pulled. Organizing “joy” is a complex problem.

That is why all the activity that includes passengers is basically organized by objects which provide the pleasant context to enjoy. This object driven organization requires an extreme precise design to ensure that the objects generate a context but do not invade passengers’ intimacy.

The meta-context for such context is the necessary client orientation of all the crew members that participates on the cruise. It is said that if a member of the crew wants to progress in the company all the evaluations of the clients have to mention “outstanding”.

Reliability is a basic condition for being a crew member of a cruise-liner. It is a team and the goal is to satisfy clients who are not interested in intentions. All what is expected must happen.

Very simple and very easy if the attitude is there.

But things can go wrong. Therefore a quality assurance must exist to avoid that the problem transcend to the clients. Quality assurance implies the necessary alarms and alternative solutions in order to satisfy clients.

If you haven’t gone on a cruise we strongly recommend it in order to learn how simple organizations work when they emulate nature.

Nokia: Mastering the Paradox of Communication Devices

Mobile communication devices changed the world. Nokia can be considered a benchmark to learn how to satisfy customers and at the same time avoid changing habits in order to ensure the expansion of the markets.

The paradox of communication devices is that they represent a solution for those who need the device to communicate with the rest of the world and for those who live in solitude and use the communication device to avoid feeling lonely.

If you observe a yacht-port you will see that most of the boats are rarely used by their owners.

There is no doubt that most of them would have a better financial solution if they rented a yacht when they want to navigate instead of owning one. But the yacht represents their freedom fantasy. That is what they bought and have.

Managing Power: Avoiding the friction caused by inaction

Work implies producing a displacement of something in the real world. Every displacement generates a friction that needs to be managed.

When two people are doing something in a working environment and one of them produces work and the other is inactive, the friction produced is extremely destructive.

It produces a paradoxical situation because:

1) There is an extreme conflict if the friction is not eliminated.

2) If the parts are “lubricated”, there will be no friction but the person who is inactive will continue doing nothing.

3) The inactive person needs to judge what the other part is doing because that judgment sustains her/his self-esteem.

4) Finally, the one who does the work ends up being judged by the one who cannot do it and the conflict escalates to the maximal level.

Therefore inaction needs to be banned from the business world in order to generate added value. “Opinators” are not welcome and intentions do not count.
