Healthcare systems need to foster medical excellence

Medical excellence requires being focused on adding value to people. Medical excellence is implicit in the Hippocratic Oath; it implies providing cures but also promoting prevention.

medical excellenceThe unicist ontological research developed on the practice of “eminencies in medicine” demonstrated that all of them had one driving force: the search for excellence.

They were driven by the need of fining new ways to generate additional added value to patients, developing the necessary actions to develop a continuous improvement of their practice and spending the necessary time to study and learn.

Both diseases and technology evolve. Therefore medical excellence implies an endless pathway to improve the practice and to learn about diseases and technologies.

This makes medical practice a unique professional field. It is necessary that healthcare systems provide the access to continuous improvement and to learning.

Healthcare IT needs to be focused on providing a technological environment that fosters medical excellence.

Indignation: a natural feeling for high-potential physicians

A unicist ontological research on the prices physicians have to pay to become professors,  made with “eminencies in cardiology”, demonstrated that indignation was a natural price to be paid.

prices paid by physicians1The core characteristic of high-potential physicians is their need to preach by example. This attitude is driven by their professional and personal dignity.

Thus, they feel abused when they become part of a “massive” environment where the materialistic and subjective needs prevail in everyday action.

Their need to preach by example is taken by others as an opportunity to avoid assuming responsibilities, hiding behind this preaching by example and the shared fallacies of their activity.

The research showed that the difference between high-potential physicians and professors is that the latter accept the difference of their role from other’s and therefore feel no indignation when their activity is disregarded in an environment.

They consider that most of the systems in medical practice have been designed to sustain people who naturally do not preach by example. When they are young, they feel indignation, when they become mature, they consider this natural and necessary.

The building of efficacy in Healthcare Management

Unicist efficacy is defined as the capacity of individuals to produce results in a responsible way.

The fundamentals of work programmingIt implies the production of results having assumed the responsibility for producing them. This is convenient when managing administrative systems because it minimizes the cost of controlling the activity.

But efficacy is necessary when dealing with adaptive systems, because the individual needs to be able to adapt to the changes of the environment.

Individuals need to have the necessary internal knowledge to assume the responsibility for results. This internal knowledge is called “intrapersonal program”. It means that the individual knows what to do and is aware of the changes in the environment.

The work processes have to be designed providing the necessary programs to solve problems and to deal with the technical knowledge that is needed.

The workstation design defines the possibility of individuals to exert their efficacy. Investing in workstation design implies improving the possibilities of growth for the company and the quality of life of their members.

Save energy optimizing the healthcare work process design

The work process design defines the capacity of an organization to work as a system being reliable for the market and its members.

unicist-process design1“Best Place to Work” has two basic drivers:
a)  the success of the stakeholders of an organization
b)  the growth of the business

The objective of every work process is to produce a utility that might be an added value or risk avoidance.

The functionality of processes implies managing the necessary technology to be competitive and to produce the results in an optimal way.

The reliability of processes is given by the redundancies of such processes, when it is an administrative system, or by the quality assurance, when it is an adaptive system.

Revising the design of work processes every two years in order to adapt them to the new technologies is a must in any competitive organization. It allows growing and building or sustaining a “Best place to Work” for the members of the organization.

Discovery of the Business Virus Type “A” and its cure

Unicist Business Virus Type AViruses are installed in organizations when the personal goals of their members prevail over the goals of the group in the case of entrepreneurs and of the mission and vision of institutions.

Viruses can be cured or palliated. When they are cured they strengthen the company and the immune system of the company.

We have identified two different types of viruses in companies: Business Virus Type “A” and Business Virus Type “B”.

Business Virus Type “A” of an Object Driven Organization

It is the virus that substitutes the purpose of a concept by a personal benefit from it.  In this case Peopleware is substituted by Personal Goals.

This generates the in-existence of the integration between software and hardware.

Virus type “A” produces anarchy or inaction within the organization and the need of an authoritarian leader to manage the conflicts produced.

This lowers productivity, quality and reliability and therefore the value generation is diminished.
