Unicist Root-Cause Management is one of the pillars of the Unicist Conceptual Management Model. Unicist concepts and fundamentals define the root-causes of problems and are the root-drivers of solutions. They allow defining what is possible to be achieved and developing the maximal and minimum strategic actions and business objects to make it happen.

The fact that unicist concepts and fundamentals define root-causes and root-drivers was confirmed after more than 20 years of application in the social, institutional and individual fields. Its business application is the field where it has an extreme added value. Its predecessor was Dr. Ishikawa with the root-cause diagram that manages fundamentals to deal with root-causes in the industrial field.


The unicist approach to business is based on the research of the concepts that underlie business functions that allowed dealing with their nature, managing the root-causes of problems and the root-drivers of solutions in order to define structural business solutions that:

Business Solution Building

Business solution building requires two types of approaches: a solution-driven approach and a problem driven approach.  On the one hand, the expansion of the boundaries of an activity requires a solution driven approach because there is no problem to be solved, but a value needs to be added. This approach requires managing the root-drivers of the solutions.

On the other hand, business solution building requires a problem driven approach when problems need to be solved in order to ensure the value generation. This requires a root-cause approach to problems.

Efficacy & Efficiency in Root-Cause Management

The final goal of the development of solutions and solving problems in business is to ensure the generation of value. To achieve this goal, it is necessary that the people participating in the process have the necessary efficacy. Efficacy is defined as the capacity of an individual to produce results responsibly.

But it has to be considered that the functionality of business solution building implies the existence of a functional efficient system. Efficiency is defined as the potential capacity of a system to produce and ensure a predefined result. There are no stable business solutions in non-organized environments.

Root-Drivers of Solutions

The maximal strategy to build business solutions implies the inexistence of boundaries. This requires having a solution thinking approach that is able to integrate the business with the environment where the solutions are being built.

This solution approach allows apprehending the root-drivers of the solution, which are the fundamentals of the concepts that drive the business function.

The minimum strategy of business solution building is problem driven. It starts with the definition of the problem proposed by the maximal strategy.

The root-cause needs to be confirmed as being possible to be solved, ensuring that it is not a limit-cause. When defining root-causes, it is unavoidable that one has to begin by approaching the triggering causes that hinder the achievement of objectives.


The concepts and fundamentals that underlie business functions are the root-drivers of their functionality. The eventual dysfunctionality of the fundamentals is the root-cause of the problems of a business function.

That is why concepts define the structure of any business function and drive its evolution. It has to be considered that the structure of the concept of a business function, that emulates the intelligence of nature, needs to be known to solve root-causes and uses root-drivers to build solutions.
